The Yonkers Commission on Human Rights has jurisdiction and power to encourage and promote the development and execution by all persons within the City of Yonkers of such programs; to eliminate and prevent discrimination in employment, in places of public accommodation, resort or amusement, in educational institutions, in commercial space, and credit transactions and to take other actions against discrimination.

The Clinton County Human Rights Commission is composed of 8 members who are appointed by the County Legislature. The members of the Commission are all volunteers who have demonstrated interest in the protection of human rights and the elimination of illegal discrimination. Human Rights Commission General Duties: To foster mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious and nationality groups in the County. To inquire into the incidence of tension and conflict among or between various racial, religious and nationality groups. To conduct and recommend such educational programs. To report complaints to the New York State Division of Human Rights, alleging any lawful discriminatory practices.

The Commission works in close partnership with the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department tohold businesses and individuals accountable for discriminatory practices that deny equal treatment to any individual in private employment, housing, education, or commerce.
